ONE SOLUTION FOR ALL
YOUR CONTRACTING NEEDS
If you’re hearing banging, hissing clicking or buzzing that you believe is coming from your air conditioning unit, it may be time for an AC repair. Of course, there may not be anything to worry about since some sounds from an AC unit are completely normal.
But when your system starts making noises it’s never made before, it’s probably time to reach out to an air conditioning repair company.
People in the HVAC business get calls all the time from homeowners concerned about strange noises coming from their systems. In some cases, it’s simply a normal sound they’ve never noticed before. In other cases, it isn’t the AC unit at all. But in many cases, they rightly assume that an AC repair is needed.
Before you make a call to an AC repair company to report sounds that go bump in the night, it can really help if you pinpoint the source of the sound. Is it from the outside unit or the inside one? Does the noise come through the vents or from a unit itself? We can arrive at the right conclusion the most quickly when you point us in the right direction.
Some of the things that may cause strange sounds to come from HVAC system include the following:
Something falling into the outside unit. This is very common. If you take a moment to look down inside your outdoor unit, you will very likely notice some debris like leaves or even sticks. If a bit of this debris hits the fan blades inside this unit, it can make a terrible noise, but a simple cleaning is all that’s necessary to solve it if the debris hasn’t done any damage.
The compressor has developed a rattle. If you notice a loud rattle you’ve never heard before, the first thing we will check is the compressor. An AC unit can’t work if the compressor is bad, so you may notice a significant drop in system performance too. Call for AC repair right away if you suspect a compressor problem because nothing is more important.
Loose screws or bolts in the system. If you notice a rattling noise that only happens when the system is kicking on, it could be because of a loose screw or bolt – or several. Loose components can rattle terribly, but fixing the problem may be as simple as tightening or perhaps replacing the screw or bolt. Then, the problem is gone completely for a very low AC repair bill.
Of course, these aren’t the only things that can cause AC noise.
If your air conditioner is making a strange sound that you don’t quite know what is, the simplest thing is to call for AC repair from a team of experts you can trust. If it’s minor, that’s great. But if the problem is serious, there’s no benefit in waiting. It will only get worse and worse over time. Why not make a call today and find out the nature of the problem once and for all?
